Biography

I have been unable to find a birth record for "Emmett". Quite interesting to note is I have found that within our Castletownroche family lines, three children named James Emmett Shine were born. This being the oldest, the youngest born in 1895. I am unsure if this was simply coincidence.

He married Maria McKeon and had nine children with her. Only four made it into their adult years.

He worked most of his years peddling ice. In his final years he sold coal.

His cause of death was Brights Disease with Dysentery. Emmett's widow Maria moved the family back to New York in 1908 after son James Joseph Shine was deep into trouble in the area. The family made its way to Long Island. Today his descendants still favor the use of the name "Emmett" in tribute to him.
