The 1820 shows John Shook and Peter Shook in Lawrenceburg, Dearborn, Indiana. John is listed in Ripley County, Indiana in the 1830 census. John appears in the 1840 Johnson, Ripley County, Indiana census on the same page as sons Amon, Peter and H(ezikiah). He is listed with one female between 30 and 40 years of age, probably the Elizabeth, age 46, who appears with John in the 1850 Johnson, Ripley, Indiana census. A child Margaret, age 6, is listed with them. Elizabeth could possibly be a third wife. That the age of the oldest female in the 1830 census was 20 to 29 suggests that this may be the same Elizabeth and that second wife Dorcas may have passed away between 1820 and 1830. The previous 1850 census page shows Peter Shook with wife Margaret (ludwick) next to a Susan Shook with several family members, who appear to be children of Hezekiah Shook. Lorezo Shook and family are also on this page.

The marriage to first wife Airey Porter is recorded in Maryland, but marriage record of 2nd wife Dorcas Ball has not been found.
