Hi, my name is Collin Woodburn. my paternal Grandfather is a Woodburn, my p Grandmother is a Dunford. My Maternal Grandfather is a Strassheim and my M Grandmother is a Murray. My makeup is predominantly British-German. Most interesting thing I’ve discovered in my research is that I’m a 3rd cousin 9th removed of president John Adams (through my Paternal Grandmother). I was inspired to start looking into my family history upon inheriting the entirety of my Great Grandfather’s Genealogical work. His name was Capt. James Marshall Dunford, a Naval ED Officer and deputy under Admiral Hyman G. Rickover. A pioneer in paving the way for the modern US Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. Genealogy was a passion of his, a trait he passed on to his daughter who in turn passed that interest on to me

Hi Collin,

Thanks for having a Big Heart and adopting Orphan Profiles. You will want to read this After adopting orphans FAQ to understand what to do next and it explains the special attention those profiles need. You may also want to go through the new member help on How to manage your Watchlist.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Hi Collin,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Hi Pippin, thank you for the warm welcome. I had some questions about citing sources, particularly for intimate 1st, 2nd, and 3rd degree relatives. Is it enough to simply state for ex: “ I know they are my 1st cousin, brother, father, grandfather, so on and so on from first hand knowledge” or is there a further burden of proof required? thank you

Collin, for relatives that close you can put something like “Personal knowledge.” That’ll be just fine!

Kind regards,

Pip
