Catherine, the daughter of David Simpson and Mary McKenzie was born about 1854 in Wisconsin. In 1860 and 1870, she lived with her family in Ridgeway, Wisconsin. ^{[1] [2]}

In 1880, Kate kept house for her brother Edward in Weston, Marathon, Wisconsin. ^[3]
