Obituary - Mrs. Joanna Skinner Yarrington, wife of Charles Yarrington, and a native and life-long resident of Sayville, died last Sunday morning just as the bells of her beloved church were calling people to the house of worship. For practically 15 years she had been confined to the house by ill health and for the past six months was bed ridden. During the past six weeks she has been many times at the point of death, only to rally again. Her faithful husband and other members of the family were constantly by her bedside. Deceased was a member of one of the oldest families in Sayville and at the time of her birth, 71 years ago, the number of inhabitants in this village, now of nearly 3,000 people, did not exceed a dozen and a half. During her younger years she was noted as a choir singer of great sweetness of voice. Though usually carrying the leading contralto, she was equally capable taking on any one of the other parts. Her place was in the Methodist church choir, of this village, which was distinguished in the '60's and 70's as being among the best singers on Long Island. This choir numbered then about thirty powerful voices, which included those of three sisters and two brothers of the departed. Deceased is survived by her husband, two sons, Prof. Adrian Yarrington and Samuel Yarrington of Brooklyn, and one daughter, Mrs. William F. LeCluse, of this village. Three sisters, Mrs. William C. Smith, Mary E. Skidmore and Miss Emily Skinner, and one brother, Isaac C. Skinner. The funeral was held from her late home on Candee Avenue on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m., the Rev. H.S. Still, pastor of the M.E. church paying a deserved tribute to the Christian virtues of a good woman. The interment was in the Union Cemetery.
