Gordon Leigh Slade was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on October 9, 1904.
Gordon attended the University of Oregon in Eugene.
Gordon played for the Brooklyn Base Ball Club starting in 1930. (The team was nicknamed the "Robins" by sports fans and reporters at the time. The change to "Dodgers" happened in 1933.)
