Biography
When Lucy Ann Christian Sluss was born on May 1, 1834, in Frederick, Maryland, her father, John, was 25, and her mother, Susanna, was 27. She married William Henry Hess on January 22, 1852, in Taneytown, Maryland.[1] They had 14 children:

- Jonas Michael Hess (1854–1916)
- Albert Calvin Hess (1855–1942)[2]
- Susan Elizabeth Hess (1857–1938)
- Alice Virginia "Jennie" Hess (1859–1936)
- George Benjamin McCllean Hess (1861–1866)[3]

- Flora Jane Hess (1865–1939)
- William Grant Hess (1866–1943)
- Emma Mae Hess )1869–1959)
- Annie Bell Hess (1871–1962)
- Henrietta Swope Hess (1874–1959)
- Hiltibert Hess (1875–1875)
- Rosela Hess (1877–1969)
William died on April 23, 1901 and Lucy died on February 22, 1919, in Middleburg, Maryland, at the age of 84, and was buried in Taneytown, Maryland.[4]
