Biography

Jacob C. Smith was born circa 1821, the son of James smith and Esther Savary of Weymouth[1]. His mother Esther is living with him in the 1871 Census[2]/

On April 15, 1854, he married Olivia Worthylake at St. Mary's Bay, Digby, Nova Scotia[3] [4] [2]

Their children included:

  1. John H, born circa 1857[2] [5] , who married Mary E Mailing, daughter of John and Abbie Mailing of Westfield[6]
  2. Charles Randall , born circa 1859[2] [5], who married Ida Foss[7]
  3. George William, born circa 1861[2] [5], who married Mary M. Hayter[8]
  4. Jacob Alan, born circa 1864[2] [5], who married Damie Andrews in Massachusetts[9]
  5. Robert James, born circa 1866[2] [5], who married Alice and moved to California[10] [11]
  6. Uriah Alexander, born circa 1869[2] [5], who married Eva[12] and moved to California[13]
  7. Mary Uella Elizabeth, born 1871[3] [5], who married William Henry Hall[14]

Olivia died before the 1881 Census, when Jacob appeared as a widower[5]

On June 19, 1881, he was widower when he married Lydia Mailing, daughter of John and Abbie Mailing of Westfield[1] [15], and their children included

  1. Archibald Maxwell, born circa 1882[15], who married Augusta Foley[16]
  2. Emma Jane, born 1884[15], who married Isaiah "Spurgeon" Weir[17]
