Little is known of Ruth King's first husband, Charles Smith. Based on the marriage date it is estimated that Charles was born around 1751. The fact that he and Ruth were married in Connecticut leads to the conclusion that they were both from Connecticut. There are records of two children being born to this couple, Delores in 1775 and Ruth in 1777. Ruth would marry her second husband, the Reverend John Graham, Jr., in 1779, so it is presumed Charles died in 1778.
