Biography
Uriah Smith was a North Carolina colonist.
Uriah Smith was born in 1750 in Halifax County, North Carolina. He was a son of Peter Smith and Mary Middleton.[1]
Around 1786, he married Tabitha Norwood in Halifax County, and they had the following children:[1]
- Mary (1791-1862)
- Samuel (1795-1840)
- Peter (1798-1850)
- Riley B. (1806-1868)
- Uriah (1808-1889), m. Nancy Medders
- Wiley, d. 1838
- Jonathan Newton (1814-1885), b. Hancock County, GA, d. Bibb County, AL
- Archibald B. (1815-1838), b. Georgia
- William E. (1817-1885), b. Georgia, d. Bibb County, AL
The Smiths may have lived in Halifax County, North Carolina, for many years. There are census records for Uriah Smith in 1790, 1800, 1810, and 1820, but there likely was another "Uriah Smith" in Halifax County. Uriah's children have produced proof that they were born in Georgia, perhaps all of his children, and several died in Bibb County, Alabama.[2]
By 1830, Uriah appears on a Bibb County, Alabama Census Report,[3] which is believed to be his record (based upon the death dates of his children -- Bibb County, Alabama).
Uriah passed away after 1830, probably in Bibb County, Alabama.[2]
