Biography

James L. Smith was born in 1809 in Holmesville, Pike, Mississippi. His parents were John Smith and Elizabeth Love. He married Sophia, daughter of Richard Quinn. "James L. was a planter. He was a very intelligent man, but of a roving disposition. He resided for a time in Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana."[1] James and Sophia had two children, Richard and Sophia, both who died young.[2] He died on June 15, 1878 in Caddo, Louisiana.
