Nancy "Anne" Smith was born to John Smith and Elizabeth Whitfield in Virginia around 1728 (assuming she was 20 when she married in 1748). She was probably born in Isle of Wight County, based on the statement that the Smiths were in that county in 1722. [1] The referenced Whitfield book, states that she was born about 1727 or 1728.[2]
Marriage and Children
Nancy Anne married Needham Bryan II in 1748. The referenced Whitfield book, shows marriage date as 5 February 1748.[2] They had the following known children:
Winifred Bryan, born 1754, married 1773, Hon. Nathan Bryan. son of Col. Hardy Bryan; he died in Philadelphia while attending Congress.
Nancy Bryan, born 1756, married 1780, Gen. Bryan Whitfield.
Death
She died about 1760 in Johnston, North Carolina.[2]
Father John Smith's Estate
On 3 June 1794, In the Hamilton District Court, Territory of the United States south of the Ohio River, Anne (Smith) Bryan's brother, Samuel Smith, took legal action to settle the estate of their father John Smith Sr, who died intestate February 1793.[5]
The "Bill of Complaint" against the heirs of John Smith Sr, included the heirs of Anne (Smith) Bryan and Needham Bryan.
Anne and Needham Bryan's son, Kedar Bryan, esquire, their only legal heir provided disposition to the "Bill of Compliant" on 13 August 1794.
