Samuel Engle Smith was born on February 9, 1828 in Mifflin Township, Columbia, Pennsylvania, United States, son of Samuel Smith (~1789–1864) and Jane Engle (~1789–1858).

Samuel married Ester Hull (born in 1824). Their son was Boyd Smith (1855–1942).

In 1880, Samuel E (52) was living in Briar Creek, Columbia, Pennsylvania. [1]

Samuel (66) married Elmira Welsh (34) (born on June 8, 1860 in Columbia County, USA; daughter of John Henry Welsh and Sarah M. L. (Everitt) Welsh) on December 1, 1894.[2]

Samuel died on December 14, 1902 in Berwick, Columbia County, Pennsylvania, aged 74. He was buried in Pine Grove Cemetery, Berwick, Columbia County, Pennsylvania.[3]
