Biography

Mary Ann Smith was born in 1798 in Morval, Looe, Cornwall, England.

Mary Ann Smith and William Hoskin Oliver (bef.1794-1853) were married by Banns on 28 October 1819 in Bodmin, Cornwall, England, with the consent of, presumably Mary Ann's, parents.[1][2][3] Witnesses to the marriage were Rich (or Ruth) Wright and Elizabeth Powell. Children from this marriage were:

In 1841, Mary, William, and seven of their children were in Castle St, Bodmin, Cornwall, England.[4] William, Mary Ann and three of their children were still in Castle street in 1851.[5][6]

Mary's husband William died in 1853 and in 1861 the widowed Mary was living with her daughter Isabella Berry (nee Oliver) in Market Street, Bodmin, Cornwall.[7] In 1871, Mary was with her son Reuben's family at Lion Street, St Andrew, Plymouth, Devon.[8] In 1881 Mary was back at Fore Street, Bodmin, Cornwall.[9]

Mary died in 1888 at age 91 in Bodmin, Cornwall, England[10] and was buried in the Bodmin Old Cemetery, Bodmin, Cornwall, England.[11]

Research Notes

A possible baptism, although the name is "Mary Turner Smith" rather than "Mary Ann Smith", was at Morval on 15 October 1799, daughter of Thomas and Jane.[12][13][14]
