Biography

James Alexander Snelson Sr. was born in 1794 in Tennessee. He is the son of Rev John Thomas Snelson and Mary Deborah Tate.

"James Snelson came from Tennessee in 1810, a single man but was soon afterward married." [1]

He married Ann Heatherly in 1821 in Gasconade County, Missouri. Their children:

  1. Sarah S Snelson, (1822–1853)
  2. Mary Snelson, (1824–Deceased)
  3. John Thomas Snelson, (1832–Deceased)
  4. Elizabeth Snelson, (1835–Deceased)
  5. Marshall L. Snelson, (1837–Deceased)
  6. James Alexander Snelson, (1839–1898)

The 1840 Census[2] shows him with his wife and seven children in Boeuf Township, Franklin County, Missouri. He is between 40 and 50 years old.

He died in 1850.
