Biography

William C. Soper was born about 1827 in Indiana.^[1] He was the son of Polly Soper (maiden name Unknown), born in Vermont.^[1][2] His father (name unknown) was born in Connecticut.^[3]

William married Rachel Griffith on May 26, 1854 in Jennings County, Indiana.^{[4] [5]} The marriage license was issued on May 25, 1854.^[4] Rachel and William had two known children, Oscar A. Soper born about 1856 and Mary Soper born about 1857.^[2][6] Sometime after the 1870 census, the family moved to Indianapolis, where they are found in the 1880 census.^[7]

William is found in the 1900 census as a widower (see notes on the census, below).^[3] He probably died in January 1908.^[8]

William is possibly buried in Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis (Marion County), Indiana.^[9]
