Biography

Joshua Soule, child of Joseph Soule and Mercy (Fullerton) Soule was born b. 14 Nov 1742, in Duxbury, Massachusetts.^[1][2]

Joshua Soule and Mary (Cushman) Soule had children:^[3]

1. Luther was born 21 December 1765 and died 21 May 1768 both in Duxbury^[3]
2. Alathea was born 28 August 1769 and died 20 May 1771 both in Duxbury^[3]
3. Joseph was born in Duxbury 8 September 1770 D one and died 3 March 1805^[3]
4. William was born in Bristol and Maine 29 May 1774^[3]
5. Ruby was born in Bristol Maine 1 October 1777^[3]
6. James was born in Bristol Maine 1 October 1779^[3]
7. Joshua was born in Bristol Maine 1 July 1781^[3]
8. Nathan was born in Avon Maine 2 July 1784^[3]
9. Mary/Polly was born in Avon Maine 1 August 1786^[3]

Death

Joshua Soule died on 8 May 1808. and he is buried at the Hillman Ferry Cemetery in Livermore, Maine, where his gravestone says he was in the 65th year of his life at his death.^[4]

Research Note

In his 1928 history of Livermore, Maine, Ira Thompson Monroe says that "Rev. Joshua Soule, d. 1808, aged 95 preached the dedicatory sermon" at the new Methodist church in Livermore, Maine (then in Massachusetts).^[5] No evidence has been found that Joshua Soule (1742-1808) was a Methodist minister, and the Wikipedia article on his son, Bishop Joshua Soule (who lived in Livermore and recorded children there between 1804 and 1812^[6]) says that the bishop's parents were "strict Presbyterians."^[7] It is likely that Monroe confused the two Joshua Soules.
