Mary Ann was born on 31 March 1818. She was the daughter of Charles James Spiller and Catherine Madden. Her parents resided at Prospect Row at the time of her baptism.[1]
She married Christiaan Philip Oertel in Graff-Reinet on 23 July 1837.[2]
Mary was 85 years old when she passed away in the home of her daughter Mrs FE Harvey in Turffontein, Johannesburg, on 29 March 1903.[3]
