Biography

Mathilda was the daughter of John and Bertha Piels Spoerl.^[1]She grew up on the family farm in Jefferson Township, Dubuque County.^[2][3]

She married William Theviot when she was 23.^[4] By 1910, William and Mathilda had two children.^[5]Two more children were born in the next decade.^[6][7] The family lived on their farm in Peru Township, near Sherrill, Iowa, for the remainder of their lives.^[8][9][10]

Mathilda died at age 79. She is buried in St. Matthew’s Lutheran Cemetery, Sherrill, Iowa.^[11][12]
