Biography

Willie Sprague was the oldest child and only son of Governor William Sprague IV and Catherine Jane "Kate" Chase Sprague. After his parents' divorce in 1882, he resided with his father in Rhode Island and his second wife, Dora Inez Weed Sprague.

Avice Weed, sister of Inez Weed, the wife of Governor William Sprague IV, eloped with William "Willie" Sprague V in 1885. They divorced in 1887 - shortly after the birth of daughter Inez Sprague.

Willie travelled west after his divorce, and eventually committed suicide near Tacoma, Washington in 1890 at 25 years of age.
