Abraham was born in 1800 in Virginia, the sixth of seven known children and the fourth of five sons of Valentine Stalnaker and Catherine Parsons.
On 1 February 1819, when he (or possibly a different person entirely -- one Absalom) was in his late teens, he married Margaret Earle in Randolph County, Virginia..
