Taken from "A History of the Stanwood Family in America":[2] Captain Robert Stanwood was born in North Yarmouth, Maine, April 12, 1760. From July 7 to September 25, 1779, he was a private in Captain Jeremiah Curtis's company, Colonel Jonathan Mitchell's regiment, stationed at Harpswell, in the expedition to the Penobscot. On October 29, 1780, he married Elizabeth Reed, in Brunswick.[3] His widow is perhaps the Elizabeth Stanwood who became, October 10, 1795, the second wife of John Soule, and died April 26, 1800. Children of Robert and Elizabeth :
Ebenezer, b. October 8, 1782;[4][5] m. perhaps, February 24,1803, Jenny Cleaves, of Harpswell.
John, b. August 28, 1786;[4][7] m. January 22, 1811, Betsy Bartol, in Freeport ; he d. July 30, 1812. Mrs. Stanwood m. February 15, 1814, David Staples, of Freeport.
