Elizabeth Starr was born about 1824 in the Cherokee Nation (East). She was the daughter of Ezekiel Starr, a Cherokee, and Mary Upshaw, a white woman. The family emigrated to Indian Territory shortly before the Trail of Tears, arriving in May, 1834. [1] She married Ellis Buffington about 1842. They were the parents of seven children, Ezekiel, Susan, Joshua, Ellis, Sabina, Almenta, and Nancy. Ellis, Elizabeth, and the five oldest children appear on the Old Settler Roll, living in Going Snake District.
[2] Elizabeth died September 22, 1869 and is buried at the Buffington Cemetery, Sequoyah County, Oklahoma. [3]
