Biography

William Stead was born in 1808 in East Ardsley, Yorkshire, England, to Samuel Stead and Hannah (Amber) Stead. William was christened 19 June 1808. He and Nancy Lumb were married 2 February 1834 in Dewsbury. He was listed as being a miner in the 1851 census. In the 1862 census, he was residing in East Ardsley. In the census of 1871, William was still working as a miner but now living in West Ardsley. By 1881, he was retired and living at Hill Top in West Ardsley. William died that year.
