Charles was born 7 January 1875 in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.[1]
He fought as a Trooper with the Kimberley Light Horse in the Boer War,[2] and remained in South Africa for the rest of his life, making a fortune in the mines.[3]
Charles died 23 June 1937 in Johannesburg, South Africa,[4] and was buried 27 June 1956 in the New Cemetery, City of Johannesburg, South Africa.[5]
Upon his death, he left £150,000 to local charities in South Africa.[6]
