Josiah married second Mary Read on 15 Apr 1760 and married third the widow Hannah Sever.

Elizabeth was the eighth oldest of eleven children of John Stevens and Ruth Poor. Although a birth record for Elizabeth was not found, she is a daughter named in the will of her father John.[2]

Josiah and Elizabeth resided in Lunenburg where Josiah was selectman in 1751 and 1752, constable in 1738, and served on the school committee in in 1740 and 1757.[3] He served other civic posts such as fence viewer in 1733 and tythingman in 1735.[4]

On 15 August 1757 (recorded 22 August 1759), Josiah Bailey conveyed to Josiah Bailey, Jr. of Lunenburg a tract of 70 acres for payment on £66. On 25 January 1763, Josiah for love, good will, and affection conveyed to his dutiful and obedient son Josiah Bailey, Jr. a tract of land in Lunenburg which was part of the elder Josiah’s home lot. On 5 July 1778, Josiah, then styled as gentleman, sold a further lot to Josiah, Jr. for payment of £100.[5]

In his will written 18 September 1784 (probate 20 November 1798), Josiah Bailey bequeathed to his beloved wife the use of one-third of the real estate and of the household furniture while she is a widow. She receives one cow and two sheep at her disposal, and if she marries or removes, she can carry away the items she brought to the marriage. Beloved sons Isaac and Josiah and beloved daughter Elizabeth Jackman each receives one-fifth of the household furniture. The heirs of daughter Ruth Carlton deceased receive one-fifth and grandson Joseph Jackman receives the last fifth. The household goods are to be equally divided except that granddaughter Betty Carlton should have the large pewter platter. Grandson Joseph Jackman receives the real estate and buildings taking possession of two-thirds at Joseph’s decease and the other third when Josiah’s wife is done with it. Grandson Joseph also receives the residue of the personal estate, is responsible for the debts and funeral charges, and is named executor.[6]
