Open a tree: click on File - then in the drop down box click on Export; don't password protect; new window choose Output format and click on GedCom and select individuals to include or select entire file. Just follow the prompts from there to finish and have it download.
One caution, if your tree on FTM is very large, try to break it up and do several GedComs. My suggestion is to manually add your parents, grandparents and great grands. Source those and fill in some biography That way you will learn how the profiles are created and how to do those items. Then create a small GedCom from one of your Great grandparents - maybe 20 people just to figure out how it works. Then do one for about 50 people and work through that one. Then, you can do larger ones if you wish and you will figure out if you want to add manually or add through GedComs and GedCompare process. Along the way, you will probably find some ancestors who already have profiles and you can just link to them.
I hope this helps and please ask as questions arise.
