Biography

James Stewart was the son of James Stewart. He was of a very unsettled nature. When he was a youth he was in the French and Indian Wars at Ticonderoga, and then, when he was about 35 years of age, he was in the Revolutionary War. After that he became mixed up with land speculation in Vermont. He moved from Connecticut, where he was born, to New York state and to Vermont. He moved his residence so often between New York and Vermont that it is impossible to say whether he died in New York of Vermont. He was the father of 13 children.
