Biography

Issac Stinson was born in North Carolina between 1801-1805, possibly 1802, the census records are inconsistent. He is believed with strong evidence to have been the son of Aaron Stinson and Mary Shelton. An Isaac Stinson was the administrator of the probated estate of Aaron Stinson and the land records point to this being the same Isaac.

Isaac appears on the US Census in Surry/Yadkin Counties between 1830-1880. He first married Rachel (Smith). Rachel died between Aug 1870 and Dec 1873 and on 11 Dec 1873, Isaac married Catherine Angell.

His known and probable children with Rachel were:

Nathan
Eli
Elizabeth
Mary
Alfred

His known children with Catherine were:

Israel
Enos

Isaac died 19 October 1886 and was buried at the Deep Creek Friends Meeting House in Yadkin County, NC. His will is on file at the Yadkin County Courthouse.

On the 1850 Census, Isaac and Rachael were farming in the South Division of Surry County and had five children living with them. On either side are George Norman and James Smith.

Nathan, aged 21
Eli, aged 19
Elizabeth, aged 17[1]
Mary, aged 15
Alfred, aged 13

In 1860, they were farming in Boonville, (now) Yadkin County. Next door to them was their son, Eli with his wife, Mahala and newborn Sanford. A Moses and Elizabeth Stinson are also living nearby, possibly Isaac's younger brother.

In 1870, Isaac and Rachel had 800 acres, still in the Boonville Township of Yadkin County and are living next to their son Alfred and his wife Dorminda(?).

The 1880 Census shows him living with Catherine in Boonville Township of Yadkin County with two sons, Israel (aged 8 - actually born 28 Aug 1875[2]) and Enos (aged 1 - actually born 26 Aug 1879[3]). His grandson, Eli Fleming, is also living with them (aged 16).

Stinson-915 and Stinson-393 appear to represent the same person because: Same wife Rachel Smith. Dates compatible; exact death date needs resolving.
