Biography

William was born about 1846. He is the son of Jeremiah Gorder Stone and Susan Howard who married December 7, 1842 Lauderdale Co., Alabama.

"William Henry joined the Confederacy when he was 18 years old. He was in the 41st Regiment of the Mississippi Infantry and served as a private in Company G. He was captured by the North after the Battle of Blakeley , Alabama. He was held prisoner on Ship Island, off the coast near Biloxi, Mississippi. This is also known as Fort Massachusetts.

He moved from Mississippi to McNairy Co., Tennessee when he was 40 years old. He settled near Bethel Springs. He was the last surviving Confederate Veteran of Obion Co., Tennessee. He died on 4 Jul 1943 and is buried in Cobbs Chapel in Obion Co., Tennessee"
