Elizabeth's date of birth is estimated to be sometime before 1600 so that she was of an age to be married and widowed before she herself died in 1625. Her last name at birth is not known.

She married a man with the surname French who predeceased her. It is not known whether they were parents to any children.

Elizabeth French was a widow when she died in Halstead, Essex, England sometime at the start of April 1625. The name of her deceased husband was not given in the parish register, but she was noted to be "of the leett" perhaps referring to the farm which she occupied.

From the Halstead parish register: "Elizabeth French widdow from the leett was buried the vth of Aprill" ^[1]

Research Notes

From the change log, this profile was created to represent an Elizabeth Symmes, daughter of Randall Symmes, wife of a William French of Halstead and mother of Francis French (a link recently disproven with DNA, see Francis's profile). She was said to have died in 1625 at the birth of this Francis, which matches the burial for an Elizabeth French at Halstead, Essex, England in April 1625. ^[2]

The person who died in 1625 is clearly not the Elizabeth (surname unproven, but often stated as "Simms") who married William French of Billerica, Massachusetts. Thus this profile appears to have been a conflation of two people from its creation. Donnelly-2171 18:40, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
