Biography

Te Wherowhero was born in 1860. He was the second son of King Tawhiao and his principal wife Hera Ngapora.[1]

After the death of his father, his brother Mahuta became the third Maori King. During 1903 to 1910, Mahuta delegated the kingship to Te Wherowhero while he served in the cabinet and on the Legislative Council.[2]

Te Wherowhero passed away in 1911.

Sir Robert Te Kotahi Mahuta notes His principal wife was Hera.... [t]hey had three children: Tiahuia ... Mahuta, who succeeded Tawhiao as King; and Te Wherowhero. Tawhiao's other wives were Rangiaho (with whom he had two children, Pokaia and Haunui) and Aotea: their child was Puahaere.
