Biography

Cyrus H. Teal was born 4 January 1888 at Euclid, Polk County, Minnesota. He was a son of William A. Teal and Laurette Perry. Though, in later years, he reported that he was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota, early records indicate that he was born in Euclid, Minnesota, about 20 miles east of Grand Rapids. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Cyrus Teal appeared as a son in the household of William Teal on the 1900 U.S. Census at 918 North Fifth in Grand Forks, Grand Forks County, North Dakota. He was listed as 12 years old, born January 1888 in Minnesota (his parents were born in Canada). He could read and write and was attending school. [1]

Cyrus H. Teal married Hattie E. Schmidt 10 April 1910 at Walla Walla, Walla Walla County, Washington. The groom was a 22-year-old farmer, born in Euclid, Minnesota. His parents were listed as William A. Teal and Laurette Parry. The bride was 20 years old, and born in Watertown, Wisconsin. Her parents were listed as Robert F. Schmidt and Emma Kunz. They were married by J.P. McCully. Witnesses were “Byran” Campbell and Evaline E. Schmidt. [2]

Cyrus H. Teal appeared as Head of Household on the 1910 U.S. Census at Mill Creek Precinct, Walla Walla County, Washington. He was listed as a 22-year-old farmer, born in Minnesota (his parents were born in Canada). He was working in partnership with his father. Though Cyrus was listed as Head of Household, it appears that he and his new wife were living with his parents, William and Lauretta Teal. [5]

On 5 June 1917, Cyrus Teal registered for the draft (World War I) at Rockland Precinct, Power County, Idaho. He was a 29-year-old farmer, residing at Rockland, Idaho. He reported that he was born 4 January 1888 at Grand Forks, North Dakota. He was married with three young children. [3]

Cyrus Teal appeared as Head of Household on the 1930 U.S. Census at Fern Prairie Township, Clark County, Washington. He was listed as a 42-year-old farmer, born in North Dakota. It was reported that he was 22 years old when he married. He was living with his wife and six children. [6]

Cyrus H. Teal appeared as Head of Household on the 1940 U.S. Census at Baker Precinct, Walla Walla County, Washington. He was listed as a 52-year-old farm mechanic on a wheat farm, and born in North Dakota. He was renting a home valued at $150. The highest grade of school he had completed was grade 4. He was living with his wife and four children [7]

On 27 April 1942, Cyrus H. "(initial only)" Teal registered for the draft (World War II) at Walla Walla, Washington. He was 54 years old, born 4 January 1888 at "Euklett", Minnesota. His residence was in Prescott, where he was employed by C.F. Flathers. [4]
