William Teed (1730-1800)

25 Dec 1736: A William "Tadd" was baptised at Selsey, Sussex. Son of "John Tadd" & Susannah [possibly Susannah Godden (1713-1741) ^[1]

15 Oct 1751, Great Walshingham, Norfolk, William "Tweedy" married MARY SADLER ^[2]

30 Oct 1757, son, Thomas, baptism: parents listed as Wm & Mary Tiddy ^[3]

1798 Will:

Will made out Apr 6, 1798- lists son Thomas to get a clock & some shillings, "MARY STRONG- DAUGHTER of my LATE wife Mary Teed", sons William (Jr) and Samuel who are NOT yet 21 yrs-- so they were born between 1777-1798. DID he marry his step daughter Mary Strong?? - there are several marriage records of Wm Todd or Wm Tedd marrying MARY STRONG all March 23, 1788 in Wisbech= PUZZLEMENT!!

"Manor of Wisbech Barton"-this is mentioned in William Teed's 1798 will as him having some kind of property here. from the best I can tell so far-the name dates back to at least 1109- Bishops seem to have controlled it, pasture and land- Great Flood of the sea to the area in 1236 killed 100s in Wisbech, attempts were made to drain some areas. Manor of Wisbech Barton extended over both sides of the River Nene

1. Thomas Teed, of Wisbech St. Peter, Cambridgeshire, baker, b. ca. 1758, d. 1834, between 7 Nov. (when he made a codicil to his will) and 20 Dec. (when his will was proved). This man was quite possibly the son Thomas mentioned in the 1798 will of William Teed, of Wisbech, yeoman, which also mentions a wife Mary (who had a daughter named Mary Strong and must have been married previously), and sons William and Samuel.[3] As “Thomas Tidd” he m. 1 Jan. 1782 in St. Peter’s Church, Wisbech, Susannah Allen, living 1801, but not mentioned in her husband’s 1834 will. He signed the register, but she made a mark.

N128The Will of William Teed was read in 1798 which leads us to assume that this was the year of his death. In it he mentions the 3 sons below as well as his wife "Mary" - no maiden name. It also mentions a daughter - Mary Strong - who is believedto have belonged to Mary from a previous marriage.
