Alexander's father, William Thayer, was born at Mendon, Massachusetts in 1708. He was the son of Thomas Thayer and Mary Poole, grandson of Ferdinando Thayer and Huldah Hayward. In 1729 William married Abigail Sumner at Mendon.[2] Wilkinson calls him "William Thayer, son of Captain Thomas Thayer, of Mendon, Mass." Alexander is mentioned in his father's will.[1]
