Biography

Pierre Theriot was born about 1694 in Acadie, son of Germain Thériot and Anne Pellerin. [1]. The family was in Minas in 1693[2], in Grand Pré in 1701[3], they had moved to Cobeguid by 1703[4] again in Cobequid in 1707 [5] and finally, in Cobequit in 1714[6]

Pierre married Marguerite Guérin (born in Acadie, Nouvelle-France; daughter of Jerome Guerin and Isabelle Aucoin) around 1727 in Acadie. [1]

Their children were:

  1. Jean-Baptiste Thériault (1728– ) .
  2. Joseph Thériot (about 1729– ) .
  3. Marguerite Thériot (about 1732– ) .
  4. Marie Madeleine Theriault (about 1733– ) .
  5. Anne Thériot (about 1735–1758) .
  6. Anselme Thériot (about 1738–1758) .
  7. Françoise Theriot (about 1740– ) .
  8. Fabien Thériot (about 1742–1760) .
  9. Brice Thériot (about 1744–1758) .
  10. Genevieve Thériot (1748–1830)

In 1751 at the time of his son Joseph's marriage, he and Marguerite were in Isle Royale.[7]

The 1752 La Roque census shows that Pierre, a ploughman, and Marguerite were living at Baie-de-Mordienne on Ile Royale (now Cape Breton Island) with 4 sons and 5 daughters. [8]

Pierre and his family were among the 342 passengers who were put aboard the Duke William, bound for France. Close to half of the passengers, 146, did not survive the horrific conditions on board and died at sea. Twenty nine died at hospital within 2 months of arrival in Saint-Malo on 1 November 1758. Pierre and his children Anselme and Anne died at sea. Marguerite disembarked at Saint-Malo with Françoise, Geneviève and Brice. Marguerite died two weeks later. Brice died at the hospital on 3 December 1758. [9] Françoise and Geneviève were orphans in a new country.
