Biography

Thomas ap Philip Vaughan died seised of the manor of Stoke Bliss, which then passed to his son William ap Thomas. ^[1] William settled it on his wife Agnes in 1434, ^[2]and died in 1437, ^[3] leaving a son John, two years of age. It seems possible that this John assumed the name Herle, the maiden name of his grandmother Margaret wife of Thomas Vaughan, ^[4] for in 1511 John Herle died seised of the manor, leaving a son George.^[5] In 1512 George died and was succeeded by a brother Thomas,^[6] on whose death in 1521 the manor passed to John his son.
