Biography

George Thomson was born in Jamaica.

George Thomson was born 31 August 1826 in Spital, Jamaica. He was brought to Nova Scotia at an early age. On 25 November 1847 he married in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, Eunice (Emma) Levina Lovett. George was a merchant in Arichat, Nova Scotia until 1869 when he moved to Halifax and resided at 113 South Park, Halifax, Nova Scotia 1869 – c. 1888.

In about 1873, he joined his brother James in forming a law partnership, Thomsons & Bullock, office at 106 Granville. In 1888 George moved his family to Wolfville, Nova Scotia and built a house at 17 Linden Avenue. He continued his practice of law in Halifax at least until 1890. In 1897 he was elected mayor of the Town of Wolfville and he remained in office until 1902.

Eunice died in 1906 and George died 19 March 1908 and was buried with her in Willow Bank Cemetery, Wolfville. An obituary says "a Christian citizen, a wise councillor, and a firm friend to all philanthropic and Christian objects." The monument is accompanied by two small stones marked E.L.T. and G.T. The inscription:
