Winifred was born about 1568.

George Clifton of Clifton and Hodsock, son of Sir Gervase Clifton of Clifton, married Winifred Thorold , daughter of Sir Anthony Thorold of Marston in Co Lincoln and heire to her mother ^[1]

She was age 13 when she married George Clifton who was 14.

Her second husband was Henry Kervile son of Thomas Kervil and Alice Bedingfeld.

Her third husband was Sir Edward Gaswell of Wallington Norfolk.

"Thomas Kervil, Esq. the eldest son, married Alice, daughter of Sir Heny Bedingfeld of Orburgh, by whom he had Henry Kervile, Esq. who, by Wingfred, his wife, daughter of Sir Anthony Thorold, Knt., and relict of George Clifton, Esq. of Nottinghamshire; her third husband was Sir Edward Gawsell, Knt."

She passed away about 1591. ^{[citation needed]}

She was buried in St Mary's Churchyard, Clifton, Nottinghamshire. Cemetery records have her surname at death as Gawsell.
