I believe that the numbers stated in the 1911 Census, relating to children of Emma's "current" marriage, are correct: a total of 5, of whom 3 were still living (Violet ["Dolly"], Leslie & William) and 2 who had died (Marjorie & John); Mildred Maude Proudfoot was the daughter of different parents. I have been able to identify only 8 children of her first marriage to William Tidy, so I am still 2 shy of her claimed total of 15 by 1911!
As regards the 1901 Census, the eldest three children (William, Eva and Geoffrey ["Jeffrey"] predate her second marriage, and only the younger two (John & "Dolly") were the offspring of William Leslie Proudfoot.
I agree that William Leslie Proudfoot's birthplace, as stated in the 1911 Census, amounts to no more than romantic association with his forebears; he was, indeed, born and baptised at Bromley, Kent.
I feel that there is overwhelming evidence that the "Jeffrey Proudfoot" who appears in the 1901 Census was, in fact, Geoffrey Tidy, born to Emma Tidy nearly 4 years before she married William Leslie Proudfoot.
I can still find no trace of Elizabeth Proudfoot, born 2 Jan 1917: grateful if you could point me to your source!
Regards, David
I can find no documentary evidence of the birth of Elizabeth Proudfoot on 2 Jan 1917, or that she was the daughter of "Jeffrey Proudfoot". I should be most interested to learn the source of this information.
