Research Notes
Not to be confused:
James Todman was born 12 December 1810, son of Daniel Todman & Sarah Todman, and baptised on 11 December 1811 in St Alfege, Greenwich, Kent, England.[7][8]
James Todman, son of David Todman & Mary Todman, was born on 16 April 1812 and baptised on 25 July 1812 in Petersfield, Hampshire, England.[9]
Yet to be verified: At some stage after 1861 (when over the age of 50, possibly after he retired) James embarked on a visit to America, apparently to seek his fortune. One story is that he asked Ellen to accompany him but she declined. He is rumoured to have amassed a considerable fortune while he was in America. He died on the boat trip home, and was thought to have been murdered. His reputed fortune and his valuable violin were never found.
