Dr. Robert Traill was born in Lisburn, County Antrim, Ireland on July 15, 1793, the son of Venerable Anthony Traill, born 1755, and his wife Agnes Watts Traill.
Dr. Robert Traill was one of at least four siblings.

Dr. Robert Traill was educated by Mr Larden of England and entered Trinity College Dublin on 4 October 1813, aged 20. B.A. 1816, M.A. 1827, B.D. and D.D. 1840. [1]
Dr. Robert Traill was the Church of Ireland rector of Schull, Cork, Ireland from 1832 until his death during the Great Famine in 1847. He served in the Diocese of Cork, Cloyne and Ross.
Dr. Robert Traill was the translator of several manuscripts of Josephus into English.
Dr. Robert Traill discovered copper on the Mizen Head peninsula and became part owner of a copper mine. One of the mine shafts is named for him.

Dr. Robert Traill spent the early part of his career trying to convert Catholics to the Church of Ireland. He was supported by the tithes assessed to everyone, no matter what their religion or economic status. The Tithe Law demanded everyone support the Church of Ireland with a ten percent tithe even if they were Catholic, Presbyterian, or Methodist, and Dr. Traill at first complained when the tithes were not completely collectible due to the resistance of the non-Church of Ireland residents in the area.
Dr. Robert Traill married Anne Hayes in 1829.

Dr. Robert Traill helped feed the poor by starting a soup kitchen at his home in 1846. He fed everyone who came for help, even if they were not from his Church of Ireland. He spent much of his income on food to feed the starving, and had to send his wife home to her mother in Dublin to protect her and his children from the diseases that were rampant among starving populace.
Dr. Robert Traill died of Typhus or Typhoid fever in 1847 which he acquired while helping feed the poor starving people in his area.

Dr. Robert Traill has a third great-granddaughter named Daisy Goodwin, who wrote Dr. Robert Traill's story into her book "Victoria." and into ITV's "Victoria" series produced from her book.
