James Francis Treanor was born in Blayney, NSW in 1897. He was the third child of James Treanor and Eleanor Drinan. He is the great grandson of Charles and Margaret Treanor, Bathurst’s Pioneer Educators.
He was educated at the Christian Brother's College in Waverley performing well in arithmetic. [1]
On 18th July 1916 aged 19 years James enlists with the Australian Imperial Force. He is described as a Printer being 5 foot 7 inches tall, 141 pounds with fair complexion, brown eyes and hair. Now 33034 Driver James Francis Treanor he would join the NSW Field Artillery, February Reinforcement. On leaving his employment with the No.1 Branch of the Government Printing office in Sydney he was presented with a wristlet watch by his fellow employees. [2]
He would travel to England where on arrival he is admitted to hospital suffering from a severe case of influenza. [3] After two months he is repatriated to Australia and discharged from the AIF as medical unfit. The diagnosis was chronic otorrhea deafness and he was granted a pension. [4]
He gains employment with the NSW Government Printing Service in 1922 [5] before marrying Eleanor Mossing in 1923 at Woollahra NSW. [6] A daughter Norma is born on 3rd June 1926.
In 1951 he is divorced from Eleanor and marries Isabel Ward in 1952 at Ryde [7]
James would pass away and be buried at Port Stephens, NSW, on 13th December 1972 aged 75 years. [8]
James is remembered at Waverley Soldiers War Memorial. Described as made of sandstone, this monument consists of a statue of an Anzac soldier holding a rifle to his side, positioned on a pillar. The pillar is at the centre of four walls, which angle out from the centre, creating a cross-like shape. The walls bear the names of those who served.
The memorial was dedicated on 15 December 1918 by Governor General Ferguson. When subscriptions opened in 1917 for the erection of the memorial, Charles Howard Wood donated the total cost of the works, being ₤1,400.

This monument thy gift of C Howard Wood Esquire is erected in honour of the citizens of Waverley who enlisted for service in the Great War of 1914–1918 and was unveiled by His Excellency the Right Honourable Sir Ronald Craufurd Munro Ferguson P.C., G.C.M.G. Governor General of the Commonwealth of Australia on the 15th December 1918.
