Norma was born in 1926. She is the daughter of James Treanor and Eleanor Mossong.
In 1938 Norma is inducted into the Sunbeam’s Honor Roll of Young Writers. [1]
As a pupil of the Convent of Mercy, Surry Hills, Norma was successful in music examinations during 1939 gaining a credit in Piano Grade VI. [2] [3]
She would enter and win a competition in 1940, claiming the sum of two shillings and six pence. [4]
In a contribution to Cheerful Odds and Ends, that would be published in the Sun, Norma would submit the following joke.
BOSS: If Mr Jones calls today tell him I’m out! OFFICE BOY: Yes Sir. BOSS: And don’t be doing any work, or he won’t believe you. (Orange certificate to Norma Treanor). [5]
Norma achieved additional success in 1941 at the Conservatorium A.M.E.B. gaining a Grade V Piano and Grade VI in the Theory of Music. [6] [7]
In February Norma was included in the Sunbeam Honor roll of Artists for drawing. [8]
The Juvenile Ball was held in October for aid of the of the local Convent, taking place in St Peter’s Parish Hall. Over 400 juveniles and numerous parents where present. Miss. M. Keating was complimented on the high standard of the dancing displayed by the children. The delightful fancy costumes and evening frocks worn by the children made a charming scene as they danced gracefully to the music. Amongst those who attracted special attention was Norma as “Moonlight”. [9]
Following music examinations in 1942 Norma would gain a Grade V, with Honours, for Theory of Music. [10] [11]
Norma passed away peacefully in her sleep on 4 June 2010 at St Peter's Green, Lane Cove North, 9 days shy of her 97th birthday.
She was a much loved member of the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy North Sydney.
Beloved daughter of James and Eleanor Treanor (both deceased). Dearly loved sister and sister-in-law of Gladys and Neville Yabsely (both deceased). Cherished Aunt and Great Aunt of her niece Christine & Greg and family.

Mass of Christian Burial for Sr Norma Treanor RSM was celebrated in Monte Sant’ Angelo Chapel, 128 Miller Street, North Sydney at 11am on Tuesday 13 June, 2023.
At the conclusion of the Mass, the funeral cortege left for Macquarie Park Cemetery, Catholic Lawn Section B7 Nuns, Plassey Road, Macquarie Park. [12]
