Joanna was born on 12 June 1762, probably in Hanover, Morris, New Jersey. She married Joseph Wood in nearby Morristown, New Jersey on 2 April 1780. She was a few months shy of 18, and he was actively participating in the Revolutionary War as a soldier in the New Jersey militia. Joseph's family had a farm, and it appears from pension-related letters that Joanna may have resided on the farm when Joseph was away on military duty.
Joanna's parents are not known for certain, but David Tuttle and Sarah Coe are the best candidates I have identified. See the research notes below for details on the rationale for assigning them as her parents. In summary: (1) four sons of Joseph and Joanna were named for the male Tuttle line descending from the immigrant William Tuttle to David Tuttle of Hanover, Morris, New Jersey; (2) no Joanna Tuttles have been found that match her known birth date, (3) David Tuttle's children are poorly documented, so there is more room for an undocumented child than for other lines of the Tuttle family.
Much detail of Joseph and Joanna's lives are in the pension application that she submitted in 1837 for Joseph's Revolutionary War service. This was rejected due to Joseph having been marked as a deserter. See Joseph's profile for details. The pension application image is on-line on Fold3($$). [1]
The pension file provides a list of the children of Joseph and Joanna. The information appears to be from a family document made while Joanna was still alive, as her death date is not recorded on it. A number of her children predeceased her.
Joseph and Joanna moved to Bound Brook, Somerset County, perhaps about 1805, after the birth of their last child and shortly after Joseph's parents had died. Joseph died in Bound Brook in 1815. Joanna was living in Newark, New Jersey in 1837 when she submitted her pension application., and she died there in 1843. She never remarried. (I have not found a primary source for her death year and location; the data here come from DAR publications. [2]
Joanna most probably descends from Stephen Tuttle (1673-1709), who came to New Jersey in 1695. Stephen had sons Joseph (1698-1789) and Timothy (1696-1754). They moved to Hanover about 1733. Joseph had a son David (1730-1815) who lived in Hanover, and who had documented children in 1758 and 1768, so there is room for an undocumented Joanna to be born in 1762.
I have found no other sons of Joseph or Timothy that both were in the Morris County area and had "room" in their documented children birth years for a Joanna born in 1762 (see chart below).
There was also a Samuel Tuthill who was in Morristown. There is no room in his list of known children for Joanna.
Names of Joseph and Joanna's children: After the first-born son Jonathan, who died as an infant, the next four sons were named Stephen, William, Joseph, and David. This is Joanna's assumed father David's paternal Tuttle line from the immigrant William. Children Jerusha and Samuel Halsey are named after Joseph's maternal (Halsey) side. Nathan Furman was a Revolutionary War soldier, and was at the battle of Springfield. Joseph likely named his son after his comrade in arms. The name Nancy occurs in the Lindsly family. John Lindsly of Morris County commanded a militia unit that Joseph served in, and he married a Sarah Halsey, so the name Nancy is likely another military connection. Joseph's great-grandfather was Jonathan Baldwin. I have not found any family associations for the name Lewis.
Sarah (Coe) died in 1793. David Tuttle only mentions son Caleb and Caleb's children in his will of 1810. A probable son Jabez is not mentioned, although he was alive and married with children in 1810. Joanna and her family are likewise not mentioned. The lack of mentions seems unusual, but Jacob and Joanna had moved away by 1810, and Joanna and Jacob may have gotten some estate after their mother died. Caleb may have gotten the bulk of the estate for being the caregiver of David in his old age.

Tuttle-Tuthill lines in America[3] -- Mention of Caleb, son of David Tuttle and Sarah Coe. No mention of Joanna with the known birth date and who married a Joseph Wood.
David Tuttle, son of Joseph, married Sarah Coe, daughter of Benjamin, in Hanover, New Jersey in 1756. Named child is Caleb (1758-1832). Possible children Jabez (1768-1860) and a David P. who drowned in 1798, and who had three children die young. No female children of David and Sarah listed.[4]
