Biography

Children: Ayle (1470), Edzo (1477), Hille (1480), Elteke (1480).

Elteko lived in Finsterwolde. In 1511 the inheritance of Focko Petels was divided in the court of Edzard of Oost Friesland between four men, including “Elteke Ubbens toe Fynzerwolde”.[1]

The earliest mention of Elteko and his family was in 1506: Hille Eltekens, as "schatbeurder" ("treasure cheerer", possibly meaning tax collector) and volmacht (judge) of Finsterwolde. His brother Edze Eltekens is mentioned in 1509 as kerkvoogd (sexton) of the Beerta Catholic Church. And their brother Ayle Eltekens is first mentioned in 1529. Many of Elteko's descendants through Ayle took the last name Stuut.
