Gravestone Inscription:

Here lies the body of
Mr. JOHN UNDERWOOD
died June 22d. 1754
Aged 78 Years
3 months & 16 Days.
Death may disolve my Body now
And bare my Spirit home.
Why do my minutes move so slow,
And my Salvation come.

This grave was initially described and documented in the book "EPITAPHS FROM GRAVEYARDS in Wellesley (Formerly West Needham), North Natick, and Saint Mary's Churchyard in Newton Lower Falls, Massachusetts with Genealogical and Biographical Notes" by George Kuhn Clarke LL. B. printed in 1900. [1]

Note

Mr. Horace Mann incorrectly stated that John Underwood was a son-in-law of Mr. Bent, and Mr. Clarke quoted him in his volume of Wellesley Epitaphs. [2]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
