Biography

Elizabeth, the wife of Edward Riggs, is probably the individual mentioned as the "Widow Riggs" in the records of the Newark Town Meetings on 25 January 1670 and 2 July 1670. She was given a land grant recorded on or shortly after 12 December 1670: “Elizabeth Rigs hath for her home lot six acres & one acre given her for service on y place by staying the first sumer and added to y reare of her lot about halfe an acre.”

There was a Nathaniel Wheeler whose recorded lot stated that it abutted “George Day north widdow Elizabeth Rigs south.”

She later remarried to Caleb Carwithie, but there were no children of that marriage. Caleb was in Huntington, Long Island and was recognized as a freeman in Connecticut in 1664.[1]

Unknown-290195 and Roosa-355 appear to represent the same person because: These two individuals are the same individual and the last name unknown is correct. Her last name was not Roosa. Elizabeth Roosa was a step-mother to the Edward Riggs that married this Elizabeth.
