Biography

Emma Jane UPTON was born on 9 July 1852 in Hobart Town, Van Diemen's Land, Australia^[1]. She was the daughter of James UPTON and Beatrice SMITH.

James MYORS and Emma Jane UPTON were married on 18 July 1871 in Kilmore, Colony of Victoria^[2].

MRS. EMMA MYORS.

An old and respected resident of the district passed away on Saturday afternoon (after a long illness) in the person of Mrs. Emma Myors, relict of the late James Myors, who had predeceased her by 36 years.

The deceased lady, who was a native of Hobart, Tasmania, was 80 years of age. She came to Parkes with her husband 49 years ago, and the family settled at Currajong, where Mrs. Myors spent the whole of her long life in this district.

The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon, when, after a service in the Methodist Church, the cortege moved to the Methodist cemetery, where the burial service was read by the Rev. W. W. Banks, and Mr. J. T. Cock had charge of the funeral arrangements.

The late Mrs. Myors, whose husband was a lay preacher in the local circuit of the Methodist Church, was an active church worker in her earlier years, and well known as an exhibitor at flower shows. She had an unusually clear memory, for a woman of her years, of incidents and events in her long residence in the district.

She is survived by three sons and five daughters, the sons being Mr. William Myors (Yarrabandal), Mr. George Myors (Molong), and Mr. Frank Myors (Mayor of Molong), and the daughters Mesdames Pratt and Bracegirdle, both of Sydney, and the Misses Ada (Parkes), Minnie (Parkes), and Grace Myors (Sydney).
