Biography

William Dixon Ure was born on June 4, 1879 in Sandwich East Township, Essex, Ontario, Canada, son of David Ure (1854–1934) and Ellen Dixon (1858–1906).[1]

In 1881, William (2) was in the household of his father, David, in Sandwich East Township, Essex, Ontario. [2]

In 1901, William D (22) was in the household of his father, David, in Essex (north/nord), Ontario. [3]

William (24) married Flora Grace Fairbairn (27) (born on September 27, 1876 in Maidstone, Essex; daughter of George Milne Fairbairn and Jane (McDowell) Fairbairn) on February 24, 1904. Their children were:

William died on October 6, 1958 in Ridgetown, Chatham-Kent, Ontario, aged 79. He was buried in Gosnell Cemetery, Highgate, Chatham-Kent Municipality, Ontario.[4]

Obituary

William Dixon Ure, lot 16, concession 5, Howard Township, passed away suddenly at his home, Monday, October 6th in his 80th year. Mr. Ure was born in Sandwich South Township, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. David Ure. He came to Howard Township in 1920 and farmed in the area since that time. He was a member of Erie Street United Church, Ridgetown. In 1904 he married the former Flora Grace Fairbairn who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Richard Stone (Eunice), of Dorchester; four sons, Melville, of Ridgetown, Glen, of Harwich Townthip, George, of Windsor, and Clarence, at home. Nine grandchildren also survive. Five sisters, Mrs. Harry O'Neill, of Oldcastle, Mrs. Ernest Hibbard, of Toronto, Mrs. William McKenzie and Mrs. Nelson McKenzie, of Maidstone, and Mrs. Harry Powell in Michigan. Three brothers, Chas., of Delbourne, Alberta, and Ray aud Nelson, of Sandwich South. Funeral services were conducted at the McKellar and McIntyre Funeral Home in Ridgetown on Wednesday, October 8th at 2 p.m. by the Rev. G. E. Morrow of Erie Street United Church. Interment was in Gosnell Cemetery, Oxford Township. Published October 16, 1958.
